Rome opera house returns to Baths of Caracalla with summer festival

Teatro dell’Opera di Roma provides Caracalla Competition 2023.

Rome’s opera property, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, has unveiled a bumper programme for its summer season pageant among the ancient Roman ruins at the Baths of Caracalla.

In addition to opera, the pageant will consist of a selection of genres, from symphonic songs, dance and theatre to cinema, jazz and pop concert events.

The Caracalla Festival 2023 programme spans much more than 50 evenings from 30 May right until 10 August, with the new Teatro del Portico room reserved for cinema, jazz and theatre, alongside the Teatro Grande arena.

Noting the “extraordinary turnout” of much more than 110,000 spectators final year, Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri explained the 2023 pageant provides “an even richer and more different programme for a unique phase in the planet such as Caracalla.”

Francesco Giambrone, superintendent of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, said the goal of this year’s programme is to “create an interdisciplinary competition based on the juxtaposition of genres.”

Giambrone also mentioned the festival is “dedicated in lots of approaches to Giuseppe Verdi” amid the nationwide Viva Verdi fund-elevating campaign to assist the condition get Villa Verdi, the museum and previous property of the celebrated Italian opera composer.
